The various boards and commissions do occassionally have a vacant position come open. When that happens, the Mayor decides on an individual they would like to appoint to fill the vacancy. City staff places the requested appointment on the agenda at the next City Council meeting and the City Council votes to either approve or deny the appointment.
To improve the process of finding applicants, city staff now collects applications to keep on file. At the time of a vacancy, staff will pull out the list of applicants and provide that list to the Mayor. Staff or the Mayor will contact the applicant to verify they are still interested in sitting on the board before being placed in front of the City Council for approval. To remain clear, submitting an application is not an automatic acceptance of the position.
If you are interested in submitting your name to the list for membership on a board or commission, click here to get the Board Application form. You can then print the form, fill it out, and deliver it to City Hall at 153 E. Main St.
